Getting to know and looking for wolf tracks in the winter
Participating in the wolf tracking program will provide you with a wealth of knowledge and intriguing insights into the biology and ecology of wolves. You'll learn about their way of life, behavior, and winter hunting habits. Additionally, you'll gain an understanding of how the future of wolves is closely tied to the tolerance of those who share their habitat. Wolf tracking also offers a captivating research experience in the snowy landscapes of the Kočevsko forests.

Mandatory equipment: warm clothes, tall waterproof hiking boots, hat, gloves, sunglasses, leg warmers, hiking poles, spare clothes (snowshoes for easier walking in the snow will be provided by the organizer)
Course of the program:
In the morning, you will meet a local experienced guide in Kočevje at the Kulturni center Kočevje (Kočevje Cultural Centre) meeting room. You'll start your day with a cup of coffee and get to know the Kočevsko area, along with the specific microlocations where tracking will occur. The guide will introduce you to the world of wolves, sharing photos, videos, and stories about 'famous' wolves in Slovenia. Through this, you'll discover that wolves are timid animals that avoid humans. You'll also learn about wolf monitoring in Slovenia, the challenges of coexistence, and measures for a successful harmonious relationship. Additionally, you'll gain insights into wolf monitoring in Slovenia, the challenges and advantages of coexistence, and measures for a harmonious relationship with these majestic creatures. You will learn where in Slovenia and Kočevsko wolves that were equipped with a telemetric collar move and reside. Before the forest visit you will repeat the rules that must be followed when searching for wolf tracks, in order to prevent any possible disturbance of the wolves.
The presentation will be followed by a visit to the forest, where you'll delve into the ecology, habits, and behaviors of wolves. Upon reaching a suitable location, tracking begins right from the car, following wolf tracks in the snow. Once you come across tracks, you'll stop, examine them, and identify the animals they belong to. When you find wolf tracks, you'll prepare for tracking and gain insights into the wolves' habitat. During hikes to different spots, you'll pause to savor refreshments, including a 'forest picnic', hot tea or coffee, and delightful honey desserts, all enjoyed in the midst of nature.
The tracking program will culminate with a visit to one of the local farmers who successfully coexists with wolves. They will share insights into the measures they've implemented and their stories of living alongside wolves. A pleasant surprise awaits you before the program concludes.
The day will draw to a close with a late lunch sourced from the local area. During this meal, the group can reflect on and discuss their experiences from the day.
