Take a ride with Kolu

NOTICE:  Due to vandalism and the resulting damage, the bicycles of the KOLU system have been removed from the rental stations in the town of Kočevje. Thank you for your understanding!

KOLU is a public bicycle available for rent to citizens and visitors of Kočevje. In Kočevje we have many local roads with little traffic where it is possible to cycle relatively safely. That is why cycling is a very popular form of recreation in Slovenia. So why not choose cycling as a way to get to work or to run your errands? Do something good for your health and the environment and take a ride with KOLU!

You are only three steps away from your first KOLU experience:

  1. User registration and payment of the annual membership fee of 15 euros can be done online.
  2. Collection of the card and PIN code in TIC Jezero in Kočevje (Trdnjava 3) everyday from 8 a.m. do 4 p.m.
  3. Rent bikes at one of the stations and you can already enjoy an idyllic ride around Kočevje and surrounding area.

Take a ride with KOLU - do something good for your health and the environment!

Steps to Kolu

1. User registration

  1. To rent bikes, you need a user card and a PIN code. Get them by registering and paying the annual membership fee. To avoid crowding at the locations, you can also pay the annual membership fee online. You need an identity document and a tax number.
  2. After payment, pick up the card and PIN code at one of the sales locations, and you must have the payment receipt with you.
  3. Upon registration, you agree to the general terms and conditions, and you will receive a subscription contract for your signature. Registration must be renewed annually.

2. Bicycle rental

Each user is entitled to 14 hours per week. Renting a KOLU bicycle is very simple. You just need your card and PIN code and follow the instructions on the terminal. Each user is entitled to 14 hours of KOLU bicycle rental per week.

  1. Select the RENTAL button on the terminal.
  2. Bring your card closer to the sign "NEAR CARD" on the terminal.
  3. Enter your PIN code while the system checks for free bikes.
  4. Select the desired bike at the terminal and walk up to the stand.
  5. Press the bike rental button at the selected stand.
  6. The system will unlock the lock. You have half a minute to get the wheel out.

Returning the bike

At the end of your ride, return the bike to any KOLU station in Kočevje.

  1. At the station, approach the free rack from the left with your bike, keep the bike on your right.
  2. Drive the front wheel into the floor guide of the stand.
  3. Make sure the front wheel is in the guide.
  4. Align the rear wheel.
  5. Push the wheel into the lock to the end position. The terminal will beep when the bike is recognized.
  6. Be sure to check carefully if the bike is locked!

You are obliged to report any damage to the bicycle to the contact number +386 30 452 408. When returning the bicycle, make sure that it is locked. If it is not locked, the system will not detect the return of the bike, which will be considered stolen after 24 hours. Until the bike is returned to the terminal correctly, the user is solely responsible for it!

Minors receive a card for using the KOLU system only in the presence of their parents or guardians and with a signed consent.

The annual membership fee is valid for the current year. The membership fee can be extended online and then you can pick up your PIN code at the TIC Jezero.

The project for setting up the first five stations was co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union. The basic goal of the project was to establish a good cycling infrastructure, so that cycling would become a popular way of travel among citizens, thus improving the conditions for sustainable mobility of the municipality. The project of two additional stations, implemented in autumn 2019, was co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund, the CLLD approach - the implementation of local development.
