Koča pri Jelenovem studencu/Hut at Jelenov studenec is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays throughout the year. By prior arrangement, it can be open outside the working day. There are 40 seats in the "restaurant" and about 100 seats for visitors outside. There are 40 beds in 6 rooms and 10 beds in a dormitory.

Koča pri Jelenovem studencu is stocked with refreshments, and it is also possible to order meals or organize various events.

Koča pri Jelenovem studencu stands on a clearing behind Mestni vrh in the Stojna mountain range, which rises on the south-western side of Kočevsko polje. Near the hut is Jelenov studenec, which is where the hut got its name from.

The hut used to be a shelter for forest workers, which was taken over by Kočevje mountaineers in 1952 and converted into a mountain lodge in one year. Over the years, the cottage got a new look, but the original design of the hut combined with sawn wood remained.

From the hut there are several mountain trails, namely to the lookout Mestni and Livoldski vrh, to the ruins of the Friedrichstein castleand further through the region of southwestern Kočevska.

Access to the hut from Kočevje is possible by motor vehicle along the forest road (from Kočevje about 9 km) and on foot along the Kalan or Castle mountain trail (1 to 1:15).
