Riserva forestale Goteniški Snežnik
The reserve is named after Goteniški Snežnik, which is the highest peak of Kočevsko with 1289 m. It is known for the habitat of the white-backed woodpecker and is therefore declared an important habitat within the Natura 2000 habitat. The forest itself is overgrown by the summit, so the view fom it is reduced.
Goteniški Snežnik is the highest point of the Kočevska Mountain Trail.
Short description of the trail: From Gotenica we ascend to the Stone Wall. Above it, we continue to the forest road, which brings us near the rocky peak. The trail is well marked but quite secluded. We walk through the woods the whole time. After rain or snow, there is a risk of slipping under the Stone Wall. In such circumstances, the path from Kočevska Reka, which mostly keeps to the forest road, is more appropriate. If you think of a circular excursion (ascent from Gotenica and descent towards Kočevska Reka), you have to return to the starting point on the asphalt road. Winter trails to Goteniska Snežnik may not be passable
